There are a bunch of top exchanges that support PayPal for deposits and withdrawals, which makes it hard to find the right one that suits your needs. Some claim to offer low fees, instant transactions, or multiple currency support. But which one should you choose?

We’ve done the research to help you with your needs. We’ve tested over 50 crypto exchanges, spending hours depositing our own money, testing all the available products, and analyzing the security features available on each, to compile a list of the best exchanges in the industry.

When looking for an exchange that supports PayPal, we know it’s not a one-size-fits-all scenario. That’s why we’ve come up with a list of categories and chosen an exchange that suits each category best.

List of Top Cryptocurrency Exchanges That Accept PayPal

A strictly regulated US exchange offering the most affordable entry point with a flat 2.5% fee for seamless PayPal deposits.

A long-standing, secure exchange ideal for high-volume traders, offering monthly PayPal transaction limits of up to $20,000.

How Did FXEmpire Choose the Best Crypto Platforms With PayPal Integration?

When looking for the best exchanges with PayPal integration, we compared the exchanges based on several key factors. We ranked them based on how well they scored on the following criteria:

  • PayPal Integration: We’ve seen many exchanges advertise PayPal support, but they don’t all work the same. We evaluated PayPal integration by checking whether platforms offer native deposit and withdrawal support without third‑party workarounds or P2P trading.
  • PayPal Fees: When making regular transactions, PayPal fees on each transaction can add up quickly. So we compared PayPal deposit and withdrawal fees per transaction, across a range of currencies and exchanges, looking for the most cost-effective options. We’ve also highlighted exchanges that offer low and transparent fees with no hidden costs.
  • Transaction Limits: If you regularly buy crypto using PayPal, the last thing you want is to hit a transaction limit. That’s why we focused on platforms with higher daily/monthly PayPal limits, which make them ideal for active traders and larger fiat transactions.
  • Security & Licensing: Security is key when choosing an exchange, no matter the reason. We focused on exchanges with strong security measures, clear proof of reserves, and licensing from trusted regulators. This gives you peace of mind that your coins and personal details are in the hands of a reputable exchange that operates to the highest standards.
  • Regional Availability: Many exchanges offer PayPal support to a limited number of countries. That’s why we decided to focus on platforms that offer PayPal support in a larger selection of countries. Especially in the US, where many people prefer using PayPal over other payment methods.
  • Trading Experience: PayPal integration counts less if the trading experience is sub-par. Our team extensively tested all the exchanges to find one with a user‑friendly platform and smooth PayPal integration. This makes it easy for you to deposit using PayPal and start trading, regardless of your experience level.
  • Mobile App Quality: Most users nowadays rely solely on mobile apps when buying and selling crypto. That’s why we’ve thoroughly tested each exchange’s mobile app, highlighting the ones that give you ease of use and smooth PayPal functionality.
  • Crypto Selection via PayPal: We preferred exchanges that offer a wide range of coins like altcoins, stablecoins, and trending tokens that are available to buy directly using PayPal.
  • Fiat Balances: We appreciate the ability to make fiat deposits and hold them on an exchange without being forced to convert them into crypto. That’s why we favored platforms that let users deposit via PayPal and hold fiat balances, instead of only letting you buy crypto directly.
  • Transaction Speed: The main advantage of using PayPal is its instant transaction processing. We compared how fast PayPal deposits and withdrawals were processed in the real world, favoring exchanges that managed to offer near-instant execution.
  • Customer Support: When things go wrong, you want to be able to speak to helpful customer support agents. We tested how responsive each exchange’s support teams were, as well as their ability to handle PayPal disputes. We also looked at real user reviews, giving extra credit to platforms with strong user feedback.

It offers high PayPal purchase limits that make it ideal if you make regular or high-volume PayPal transactions. Bitstamp is also licensed in the US, UK, and EU, whilst offering 100% Proof of Reserves, and 95% cold storage. All of this adds up to make Bitstamp hard to ignore if you’re looking for a platform that’s secure, compliant, and offers high transaction limits.

How to Choose the Best Crypto Exchange for Buying Crypto with PayPal?

What Should I Look For When Choosing An Exchange That Supports PayPal?

Choosing an exchange that supports PayPal isn’t easy, with so many solid options available. We recommend looking for the following key factors when considering which exchange to use:

  • Direct PayPal Integration: You should check if the exchange supports PayPal directly, or if it relies on P2P trading or third-party services like Simplex and MoonPay to support PayPal. Third-party services typically charge higher fees for PayPal deposits than exchanges that natively support PayPal.
  • Transparent Fees: Look for exchanges that clearly display their fees before you confirm your transactions. The last thing you want is to confirm your transaction, only to find out afterwards that you’ve been hit with hidden fees.
  • Cash In & Cash Out Support: Since many exchanges only support PayPal deposits, it’s important to check whether the exchange you’re considering also supports withdrawals.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Always make sure the exchange is licensed and regulated by a major financial authority, ideally in the US, EU, or UK. This gives you that extra reassurance that the exchange operates to the highest standards and complies with strict financial regulations.
  • Local Currency Support: Different exchanges support different currencies via PayPal. We suggest double checking which fiat currencies your chosen exchange supports via PayPal to help avoid paying extra fiat conversion fees.

What are the Advantages of Using PayPal to Buy Crypto?

Despite its higher fees, PayPal does offer several key advantages that might make it worth using. Of course these will depend on your individual use case, but here are some of the biggest advantages of using PayPal to buy crypto:

  • Convenience: You can buy crypto using your PayPal balance or a bank card linked to your PayPal account. This lets you skip entering your card details and waiting for transactions to be approved in your banking app
  • Speed: Deposits and purchases through PayPal are fast and usually settle instantly. This makes it ideal for capitalising on sudden dips in the market. Unlike bank transfers which can take several days to process.
  • Familiar Platform: If you’re a long time PayPal user, you’ll find it quick and easy to make transactions via PayPal.
  • Reputation: PayPal comes with a long reputation for safe and reliable operations, assuring that your bank details are in the hands of a trusted company.

What Are The Fees Associated With PayPal Deposits And Withdrawals?

PayPal fees are fairly straightforward, but can vary greatly depending on which exchange you are using. If you’re depositing or buying crypto using PayPal you’ll have to pay a deposit fee, which I’ve seen vary from 2.5% to 4.0%. If you’re selling crypto for fiat or cashing out, you’ll have to pay withdrawal fees which can sometimes be a percentage or a flat fee depending on which exchange you use.

Is It Safe To Buy Crypto With PayPal?

Based on my testing and years of experience, I’d consider PayPal a safe option when buying crypto or making fiat deposits. PayPal is a heavily regulated platform that you can trust with your banking information.

Why Are PayPal Crypto Purchase Fees Higher Than Bank Transfers?

You will probably notice that crypto purchases using PayPal typically cost more than making deposits via bank transfer. This is because PayPal charges higher processing fees than most banks, fees that the exchanges are forced to pass on to you, the end user. Exchanges can also add extra fees to cover the risk of chargeback scams and disputes, things you don’t have to deal with when using bank transfers or bank cards.

Does PayPal Offer Buyer Protection For Crypto Transactions?

PayPal’s buyer protection policy usually doesn’t cover crypto transactions. That means all crypto purchases are final, the same as if you were using a bank card or bank transfer. Purchases using PayPal are also ineligible for dispute resolution or fraud protection.
